In any case, this is what the anti-waste law for a circular economy suggests, which came into force on January 1, 2022, which aims to reduce the use of disposable plastic and replace it with other materials. But also to develop reusable or recyclable and recycled packaging.
The evolution of the plastic ban
To work effectively against this pollution of nature by humans, it is necessary to limit the production of waste at its source. And we all have our part to play!
In 2016 , the law began to ban the first plastics: single-use shopping bags, except bio-sourced compostable bags.
In 2020, disposable plastic cups, glasses and plates, as well as cotton swabs made from this material, will follow.
In 2021 , straws, confetti, disposable glass lids and stirring sticks are also banned.
To which will be added in 2022 , the production of packaging or bags made from oxodegradable plastic, the retail sale of fresh fruit and vegetables in plastic packaging below 1.5 kg, except for certain listed products, as well as as the marketing of non-biodegradable plastic tea and herbal tea bags.
And future goals?
Between 2023 and 2028 the next stages of banning plastics will take place. Fast food restaurants must in particular, from January 1, 2023, use reusable tableware for meals and drinks served on site (cups, lids, plates, containers, cutlery).
France has also set itself the objective of reducing the number of single-use plastic bottles by 50% by 2030!
Promote bulk to reduce packaging
Reducing plastic in your daily life obviously requires changes in your way of consuming. And that starts with the shopping we do every week!
Since January 1, 2021, each consumer can bring a reusable container to retail stores. This container must be clean and suitable for the product purchased.
Replace the plastic bags available in stores (and even paper) intended for fruits and vegetables, with washable fabric nets. More and more supermarkets also offer dry products in bulk (rice, pasta, nuts, cereals, etc.). Reusable fabric bags to carry them and that's it!
Other brands such as Biocoop go even further and allow you to buy your liquid detergents, olive oils or even honey in bulk. All you have to do is bring your containers whenever you need them.
No more plastic at Nunamae
Since the launch of Nunamae, we have gradually eliminated plastic from our circuit. Particularly in terms of our packaging which is now made of recycled kraft paper, labels and thank you cards made from recycled paper, as well as adhesive stickers also made from recycled paper. The same goes for our suppliers with whom we have done a lot of work to no longer receive our products in plastic during delivery.
However, we still have one pet peeve for which we have not yet found a solution: packaging our pallets. We tried to replace the plastic film with an assembly of cardboard boxes from our suppliers, without success.
